As I said earlier today, I'm going to my first Sounders match tonight. I guess I have soccer on the brain, but this just struck me as offensive.
Major League Soccer Blowhard Says Female Superfans Are Totally Not Hot (FYI - there's some NSFW language there.)
The summary: Simon Borg, a writer for the official MLS website, went on the official MLS podcast and said (paraphrased) if you're a woman, be a superfan, but don't expect men to find you attractive or want to date you.
Honestly.
Here's a thought - if your job is to get people (in America) excited about soccer, you probably shouldn't knock a potential 50% of your fan base. Women still buy tickets, merch, concessions, right? Not to mention, tickets, merch and concessions for their kids! I'm not the biggest soccer fan, but find the whole idea offensive as a female fan of professional sports. No, as a woman, period.
I'm curious to see how it all unfolds...
