I rarely see a movie when it first comes out. I love movies, but I usually like to wait and see what other people, besides the critics, really think of a flick. Not to mention I get a little antsy sitting in a theater quietly for hours.
Well this weekend, I was swept up into a group of friends who went to see “Oz the Great and Powerful”
Let me say, the original “Wizard of Oz” is one of my all-time favorites. I was interested in seeing the story of how the Wizard of Oz landed in the magical location and how his rule came about.
The story was rather disappointing at first. Following in the footsteps of such a classic is not easy, to say the least. And James Franco is not very convincing as the “great and powerful Oz”. But about halfway through I stopped being skeptical and started suspending reality, and things got better. It is only movie about a make believe land after all.
Would I recommend it? Only if you promise not to take it too seriously.
