Save a deer go to jail?

Saw this this morning on Good Morning America and I almost spit out my coffee..

This couple in Indiana rescued an injured fawn and nursed it back to health.

Now, according to ABC,  “The couple faces the possibility of jail time and fines after state officials charged them with a misdemeanor for harboring the animal.”

I know it's probably not the best thing to do, bring in a stray wild animal, but as an animal lover I feel for these people who put alot into saving the poor deer.

And don’t forget to join the club.

SAVE the deer
My father (in MI) used to have a contract with the Conservation Dept of the DNR. He could take in fawns that were injured (usually during spring plowing) ONLY if he did not touch them (used gloves) or make them 'pets'. He nursed at least 6 to 8 fawns to a healthy enough age to release them back into the wild and they survived quite well (until hunting season, anyway).
