A few music related movies premiered at The Sundance Festival, and while alot of people are talking about the
Dave Grohl directed flick there’s another movie coming out of the festival that is getting some buzz too.
It’s called "Twenty Feet From Stardom", a documentary that explores the culture of supporting/backup singers.
The film includes interviews with artists who are known for their use of backup singers, including Mick Jagger, Bruce Springsteen, and Sting. Many well-known supporting vocalists are also interviewed, including Darlene Love, Merry Claytonand Lisa Fischer.
Twenty Feet also explores the psychology of standing in the shadows of super-stardom and the lack of individual identity – which, depending on the singer, can feel like bliss or purgatory.
The movie was picked up by the Weinstein Company and should be released soon. When it comes out you’ll be the first to know if you
join the club.
