Hiya!
Well first things first… If I can just get up earlier than a most dairy farmer and make it to work without hitting to many red cones on the way to the station, then the rest ought to come rather naturally, right?
I’m big on hiking with my wife and dog, boarding when the weather’s right and getting my Kayaks from my garage in Utah into storage here where I could use them more often…. Cha!
I’m most recently from Park City, Utah where Winters are used up with boarding at one of 8 rec areas with 15 minutes from the house and summers hiking one the 27 trail heads in my neighborhood. Shawn Stewart already bought me a book of day hikes so I’m stoked about that. I also spent the last couple years telling a few Alternative and AAA stations what to do. Now I’ve come here for a dose of that applied to me!
I’ve worked at radio’s in Atlanta, LA , San Francisco and San Diego. I’ve been trying to get to the Puget Sound for almost 20 years and have ended up every place else but…which has been a little frustrating. I like radio gigs because it’s gets me close to huge music libraries and a cavalcade of new music that finds its way to the station on a daily basis. Big music fan. Reality TV is a mystery to me, you’ll have to explain that one. I love old movies from the 30s, 40s and 50s where they had to depend on the dialog because effects were ziltch.
According to my play count on my iPod, favorite bands are The Shins, Ryan Adams, Rolling Stones, Radiohead, REM, Pretenders, The Ocean Blue, Pink Floyd, Jackson Browne, Police, Arcade Fire, The Verve, U2, Spoon, The Smiths, Silversun Pickups, Stevie Wonder, Great Northern, The Cars, Death Cab for Cutie, Marvin Gaye, Moby, Led Zeppelin, Kings of Leon, Tracy Chapman, Kasabian, 10,000 Maniacs, Stone Roses, CSN, Tom Petty, Hockey, Elton John (pre 1977), Duffy, The Decemberists, Ryan Adams, The Clash, Bruce Springsteen, Billi Holiday, Bodeans, Patti Page, Beck , the living Elvis… and, and… oh heck that’s all I can think of right now.
I’m excited to be a part of the Mountain. Now I gotta go… I’m gonna miss my ferry to Bainbridge…
Enough about me… how are you?

Shawn Stewart

Weekdays 9am - 2pm

Shawn Stewart has worked at 3 of the best radio stations in America. She began her career at the adventurous, eclectic alternative outlet Rev105 in Minneapolis. From Minnie she moved to Philly, where Shawn made the transition to Public Radio at the legendary home of The World Café, WXPN. Shawn landed in Seattle and hosted her very first shift on The Mountain on the first day of the new millennium. By that April, Shawn was on the air every weekday and handling Music Director duties. Along the way, Shawn has written and produced numerous nationally syndicated radio shows, hosted an ill fated television show for Spin Magazine, taken a yoga class taught by Sting, and interviewed everyone from David Bowie to Allen Ginsburg.

In March of 2007, Shawn left The Mountain for an extended vacation. She vacationed from her vacation at the Bonnaroo Music Festival where she interviewed 40 bands in 4 days including Ben Harper, Warren Haynes, John Butler, Fiest, Richard Thompson, Lily Allen and pretty much the whole darn roster. The remainder of her time off was spent searching the globe for kind powder, big waves, and the perfect pop song.

Weekdays 2pm - 7pm

My main mission every afternoon is to get you through the end of your workday and on your way home without a road rage incident or a blood vessel bursting in your temple due to the stress of Puget Sound traffic. My theory is that laughter+music=sanity. (Although I actually studied very little math.)  So every afternoon I pull something out of the Mountain comedy vaults, which have been accumulating hilarious material since 1991.  The 5:20 Funny kicks off a solid hour of music for your drive home -- The Mountain Music Marathon --  hand-picked by me to sound good in the car.

The other big part of my job is hosting the Carter Subaru Mountain Music Lounge.  That's when musicians drop by the station to chat and play a couple of songs live.  Every weekday afternoon at 3:15 there's either a new, live session, or a performance from the archives that deserves another listen. Check here to see who's on the schedule of upcoming sessions. Some of these performances will ultimately wind up on one of our Live from the Mountain Music Lounge CDs, so you're actually hearing history being made.

Bottom line:  Every day I just try to put great Mountain music together for you and shed a little light on some of the songs and artists as we go.

A few of my favorite things (in no particular order): My dog Zoe, music (tons, but at the top of the list is Steely Dan,)  bicycling,  movies, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Daily Show, Pilates, my scooter, photography, dining out in Seattle, reading, Whidbey Island, writing, Paris, and an icy-cold Bombay martini on Friday after work (straight up with two olives!)
