John hasn't quite been at The Mountain since Day One, but almost -- he came to the Northwest from Chicago in the fall of 1992, right after the movie "Singles" came out, and right before Bill Clinton beat the first George Bush. John hosted the Mountain Morning Show back then, moved to afternoons a couple of years later, then back to mornings for a nine-year run, then back to afternoons. Now, with Marty Riemer's return to The Mountain, John tackles the early shift for an unprecedented third time, just in case he'd forgotten what it feels like to wake up at 4 a.m. He'll start your day with lots of Mountain music and just enough information to make you feel like you know what's going on around here when you're hanging out with your coworkers around the coffee machine.
John's other big job at the station is hosting the Carter Subaru Mountain Music Lounge. That's when musicians drop by the station to chat and play a couple of songs live. You can usually watch those sessions on our site; check here to see who's on the schedule, and every weekday morning at 5:50 catch either a new, live session, or a performance from the archives that deserves another listen. (Some of these performances will ultimately wind up on one of our Live from the Mountain Music Lounge CDs.)
A few of John's favorite things (in no particular order): His dogs Zoe and Gizmo, music (tons, but at the top of the list is Steely Dan,) bicycling, movies, Pilates, yoga, photography, The Daily Show, dining out in Seattle, reading, writing, Paris, and an icy-cold Bombay Sapphire martini on Friday afternoon (straight up with two olives!)
